The Wych Elm (Ulmus glabra) from which this bowl is made had fallen and lay in an agricultural field in Peterculter, Aberdeenshire. Its age was probably around 80 yrs. The farmer wanted the tree removed from his field. Having already started to deteriorate, the wood shows lovely spalted patterns.
