This platter was made from a ca. 100-yr-old Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) which stood in a local farmers lawn in Cults, Aberdeen. Over the years the tree had been regurlarly 'toplopped' (a bad practice which unfortunately still perseveres) and its appearance had deteriorated.
